Break the Procrastination Loop with Physics

I used to wait for motivation to strike. If I didn’t feel like it, I wouldn’t start. That created a vicious circle: the more I procrastinated, the more overwhelmed I felt; the harder it became to begin, and the more I delayed.

The truth is: motivation isn’t a prerequisite for action. Physics tells us two simple facts:

In other words, momentum comes from taking action, not the other way around. Instead of over‑thinking and waiting to feel ready, take a tiny step.

How do you take that first step? Apply a small external force—build simple cues or systems that push you forward, even on a down day. For example, set a timer for 10 minutes and commit to working on the task for just that span. When the timer buzzes, use the momentum you’ve built to keep going, or give yourself a short break before you dive back in.
